Mountain Rainforest

Undertake a trekking excursion of several days' duration with us to the Gunung Mekongga, the highest mountain of southeast Sulawesi with a summit elevation of 2790 m.

This remote mountain region is renowned for its large diversity of plants and animal wildlife. While passing through the different climate zones you can study the changes of the vegetation:

from lowland rainforest with its giant trees through dense mountain rain forest up to shrubby misty forest where mosses, lichen, treeferns and orchids predominate.

You will also realize the profound climate changes with increasing altitude:

The strenuous laboring along at humid 30°C in the lowland will change to a comfortable walk above 1000 m elevation. And when you get higher than 2000 m nights can become surprisingly cold (7-10°C) and in your tent you will be glad to have warm clothing (fleece shirt, anorak) and a sleeping bag with you.

Only too well that our strong guides will carry the major portion of your baggage during the expedition, if you want!
