Underwater World

The coasts and islands of Southeast Sulawesi are still in most parts surrounded by largely intact coral reefs. Just a couple of years ago several islands of the Tukangbesi group southeast of Buton Island were declared as WAKATOBI national park. The name is assembled from the names of the four main islands in the park:

Wangi-Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia und Binongko.

This national park with an area of 1.390.000 hectares is considered to be one of the richest and most beautiful diving regions of the world. But also on various islands located more closely you have the opportunity to submerge into the colorful world of fishes and corals.

For snorkelling fans and beach lovers we organize individual trips to remote islands, paradise beaches and coral reefs.

You can book the services and classes of professional diving resorts like the Wakatobi Dive Resort or the Research Center of Wallacea on-site.

Caves

In the limestone formations, dominating in many areas of Southeast Sulawesi, numerous dripstone caves have been formed. Many of them have only recently been discovered or have remained completely unexplored.

These ecosystems are home of several rare bat and fruit bat species.
